Beware of door-to-door salespeople: they may not be who they seem!
We hear all the time from customers about visits they receive from door-to-door salespeople representing other pest control companies. We urge you to beware of these individuals. In addition to being pushy, they may urge you to sign contracts for services you don’t need. Before you know it, you could spend a lot of money on services you don’t need.
If you’re thinking of hiring a pest control company, do a little research first. Find out what the company offers, then be sure it’s a reputable company with skilled technicians.
Why you should be wary
Door-to-door salespeople often resort to high-pressure tactics to convince customers to sign right away. Homeowners should be aware that any contracts they end up signing may contain terms that do not allow them to cancel the contract. If you change your mind later, you may find that you are locked in. Furthermore, such salespeople may not be licensed or certified to do business in your state. In other words, they may not be trained to treat your home safely and effectively for pests.
What to say and do when a door-to-door pest control salesperson comes knocking
If you find yourself standing face-to-face with a door-to-door salesperson, telling them you’re not interested is not enough. Don’t hesitate to say firmly that you don’t want anyone coming to your door selling anything. You can also post a sign – visible from the street – that says, “No Soliciting.” Another option is to post a “No Trespassing” sign which will prevent most people from coming onto your property.
The final word on door-to-door pest control salespeople
